Diabetes Education & Nutrition Counseling

Personalized Diabetes Support & Nutrition Guidance

Everyone’s diabetes is different, and you need guidance specifically for you. Your dietitian will help you figure out a plan that is customized to where you are in your diabetes journey, as well as your other health conditions, medications, lifestyle, and food preferences.

There is no one right way to eat for diabetes.¹ Your dietitian will meet you where you are and provide specific recommendations that build upon your current diet, rather than reinventing the wheel.

Who Can Benefit from Diabetes Education & Nutrition Counseling?

Our dietitians help a wide variety of people with diabetes. Whether your diabetes is diet-controlled, or if you are on oral medications, GLP-1s, and/or insulin, we can help! We work with people at every stage of their diabetes journey - from those who have just been diagnosed, to those who have been living with diabetes for decades.

Even if you have been to a diabetes class or met with a dietitian in the past, we can help guide you. Multiple major health organizations, including the American Diabetes Association, recommend getting diabetes education at the time of diabetes diagnosis, annually, when diabetes complications occur, and anytime there is a transition in care.² Diabetes education should be seen as a continuous need rather than something that is one-and-done.

Our Diabetes Dietitians Can Help You Meet Your Goals

Everyone has different goals around their diabetes. Whether you want to lower your A1C, decrease risk of complications, avoid additional diabetes medications, or achieve diabetes remission,³ we are here to support you.

Studies show that working with a dietitian can decrease A1C anywhere from 0.3 - 2.0%.⁴˒⁵ We have helped some patients achieve results well beyond this, and many patients see improvement in weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and liver enzymes as well. Please be aware that everyone’s results will vary.

Our patients commonly report understanding their diabetes better and having more confidence in their food choices after meeting with our dietitians. Patients often leave their initial sessions feeling that they can eat MORE foods, rather than less.

Helping You Understand Your Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Data

If you wear a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), we will connect with your device and review your report with you. We can educate you on all the information such as GMI, average glucose, and time in range. We can also look at how your food, activity, sleep and medications are affecting your glucose levels.

If needed, we are always willing to print out your report for you, or fax it to your other healthcare providers if they do not have access to this information.

Why Choose AMS Nutrition Counseling for Your Diabetes Educator?

At AMS Nutrition Counseling, our dietitians are also Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCESs). This means they have an additional credential demonstrating their high-level competency when it comes to working with people with diabetes.

Our dietitians take a person-centered approach that prioritizes your preferences, needs and values, while also leaning on their knowledge and clinical experience.

While our dietitians can help with your nutrition and general diabetes management while on an insulin pump, our dietitians are not certified pump trainers. You should also be working with another healthcare provider that can help adjust your pump settings.
