Why I Love Being a Dietitian

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

Thank you for visiting my blog! Here is where I will be sharing recipes, ideas, information and more. If you ever want me to write about a specific topic, feel free to e-mail me or follow me on Facebook and Instagram.

For my first blog post, I wanted to share why I do what I do. Being a dietitian has had its ups and downs, but in the end, I am so grateful that I found a career that I am truly passionate about.

When I first started school for nutrition, I don’t think I really knew what I was getting into. I always liked math and science so the classes were interesting to me. However, I didn’t really know how all that information was going to translate into a career.

Flash forward to several years later. I am now utilizing all that information I learned to help people. I get to spend time talking with people and connecting with them. I listen, provide ideas and learn about their life stories. Hopefully, I improve some of these lives, even if it’s just a little bit. This gives me so much satisfaction. When someone says “My knees don’t hurt anymore”, “I don't need my insulin anymore” or “I fit into my jeans again” it really makes my day. I can go home knowing that I made someone happier. This makes for a rewarding career.

I also love being a dietitian because I am learning every day. I learn things from my clients, other dietitians and other healthcare professionals. The job never gets old because the medical field is constantly changing. We are always learning new things about medicine, the human body and nutrition. I truly feel that ten, twenty and thirty years from now I will still not be bored doing what I do. I’m always growing as a practitioner and perfecting the art of counseling people on nutrition.
