Food Shopping at Convenience Stores
Updated: Sep 29, 2020
Ideally, you’d always be food shopping at a grocery store, but sometimes that’s just not the case. The healthy options at convenience stores and gas stations are pretty limited, but they’re still out there. Single serving packages of nuts and seeds are becoming more readily available. Many of these stores are also carrying things like hard boiled eggs, pieces of fruit and cheese sticks. Don’t forget about lower calorie snacks like light popcorn, whole grain crackers (think Triscuits and Wheat Thins) and pretzels.
There are generally pretty limited options in terms of low-calorie or calorie-free beverages at these types of stores. Soda, lemonade and other sweetened beverages can pack a significant number of calories. You can’t go wrong with bottled water. You may even be able to find a cold seltzer water or unsweetened iced tea.
Food products at convenience stores generally carry a larger price tag in comparison to grocery stores. Don’t be afraid to shop the sales along with coupons and member rewards cards.
Whether you’re on the road or just can’t get to the grocery store, shopping for healthy foods at convenience stores is possible. Look around and you may just be surprised about what you find!
